London

Founded by the Romans as the town of Londinium on the north bank of the river Thames, soon after invading Britain in 43 AD. The city came to prominence after William of Normandy, the last successful invader of Britain, in 1066 became the first king of England to be crowned in Westminster Abbey.

London is now Europe's largest city with a population of around eight million. It spreads over an area of more than 600 square miles from its core on the River Thames.
London's world-class museums and galleries have been reinvented in recent years and the vast majority are free of charge. You could spend days just shopping in the city's famous department stores and the offbeat weekend markets. The theatre, music and clubs scene are second to none, while pubs and restaurants offer an array of world cuisine to suit any pocket. The city's parks are some of the best in the country, Hyde Park and St James’s Park are worth a visit, as are Greenwich and Kew.
